"I will be a tireless advocate for education funding and affordable health care and will work for a tax system that rewards businesses for providing jobs with decent wages and benefits." EducationA long-time teacher, I work to restore funding to Idaho schools to reduce class sizes and allow more time for teachers to work one on one with students to assess needs and insure each student is achieving at his or her highest level. I will work to lower fees and increase scholarship programs to keep Idaho’s promise to its young people and its business community by making a college education affordable for every high school graduate. "I teach at Fort Boise Mid High because I love teaching and particularly love working with at risk teens. I am an Idaho certified teacher but work as a writer in the schools for the Log Cabin Literary Center because this job allows me to advocate for the community while continuing to teach in a public school class room. I have turned down assignments at private schools to teach at Fort Boise because I am completely dedicated to public education in Idaho. I feel honored to work with my students and with other teachers at Fort Boise. They inspire and challenge me every day I am in the class room. I love finding my students' incredible talents. I could not have a better job." --Nicole LeFavour April, 2004 Tax Policy and BusinessHaving worked for the past four years on Idaho Budget and Tax Policy issues, I work hard to craft a tax system that enhances our economy by rewarding small businesses and corporations for providing jobs with decent wages, retirement and health care benefits. I will work to expand circuit breaker property tax protections for low income seniors, families and people with disabilities. Transportation and EnvironmentAs a legislator I will continue to be a strong voice for conservation. I will fight to protect Idaho’s clean air, water and wild lands from the trend toward loosening environmental restrictions and standards for industry and agriculture. To reduce traffic and protect air quality, I will work for legislation that allows voters to choose local option taxes as a way to fund area mass transit, enabling cities like Boise fund greatly expanded routes and schedules to make bus systems more useable. Health and Consumer ProtectionAs your representative, I will continue to work hard to fully fund the Children's Health Insurance Program, to maintain healthcare access for seniors and people with disabilities. I will advocate tirelessly to protect utility consumers from rate hikes and regulatory changes that would increase costs for small businesses and low income customers. |
